The Poor Relief Act
Whereas it is expedient to make provision in the matter hereinafter set out: be it enacted by the Assembly as follows.
The Act has 2 sections, summarised below as the code requires.
- Passed by the Assembly by 40 votes to 23.
- Every town above 5000 inhabitants must appoint an officer under this Act.

- F2 In turn amended by The Poor Relief (Amendment) Act, 18 November 1954 (amending The Poor Relief (Amendment) Act). Passed by the Assembly by 40 votes to 18.
- Repealed with effect from 7 April 1841. The text is retained in the code for reference.
The Act is cited by its short title. Copies are held at every office of the Ministry of Justice and at the town halls.
